Next Steps - What to Expect from Your First Session

Many people who meet with a therapist for the first time experience some nervousness around how the process works. Every client and every session is unique, but I've listed some common questions below regarding our first session together.  If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

What do I bring to my first session?

Please print and fill out the forms listed below to bring to your first session.  You will want to fill out the intake form and either the individual or the couples disclosure statement, depending on the type of therapy you're seeking.
  • Intake Form
  • Individual Disclosure
  • Couples Disclosure

What should I do when I arrive?

When you arrive at the Lake City Professional Center, please have a seat in the lobby, located on the first floor near the reception desk.  My office door remains closed at all times to maintain confidentiality, so please remain in the lobby and I will come out to meet you at your appointed time.

How long will I be in therapy?

Typically, sessions are 50 minutes in length and occur weekly.  As far as the total course of treatment is concerned, it is determined on a case-by-case basis.  Whether our work lasts a matter of days, months, or years, we  will  determine this together as we progress.  The length of your therapy is completely up to you.

I don't have a major trauma in my life; Is therapy for me?

There is no "right client" for therapy.  If you are unsatisfied in life, having relational difficulties, or just want someone to talk to, therapy is right for you.  If you have experienced abuse and/or other trauma, therapy is also right for you.  We will work together to tailor therapy to your individual needs.
