What To Expect

Many people who meet with a counselor for the first time feel some nervousness around how the process works.  This is something we can discuss more fully in person, but there are also some common questions that I can answer here.

What should I do when I arrive at your office?

When you arrive at Northwest Family Life, you do not need to check in at the front desk.  Have a seat in the lobby and I will come out to meet you at our appointed time.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

In the forms section of this website, you can print and fill out the necessary paperwork needed for your appointment.  If you are unable to print, I will also have them available for you at the time of our session.

How long will I be in therapy?

Typically, sessions are 50 minutes in length and occur weekly.  As far as the total course of treatment is concerned, it is determined on a case-by-case basis.  Whether our work lasts a matter of days, months, or years, we will determine this together as we progress.  The length of your therapy is completely up to you.

I don't have a major trauma in my life, is therapy for me?

There is no one "right client" for therapy.  If you are unsatisfied in life, having relational difficulties, or just want someone to talk to, therapy is right for you.  If you have experienced abuse and/or other trauma, therapy is also right for you.  We will work together to tailor sessions for your individual needs.
